Californian worm humus, known as California red worm (Eisenia Foetida), has an ideal composition,

Among the different species of worms that are used to make humus are, Eisenia Foetida, Eisenia andrei, Eisenia hortensis, Perionyx excavatus, Eudrilus eugeniae, Dendrobaena veneta, Lumbricus rubellus, Lumbricus castaneus, Polypheretima elongata, Amynthas rodericens, Amynthas hawaderiana.

All are suitable for the production of humus, but Eisenia Foetida and Lumbricus Rubellus are the most resistant to low temperatures,

and those that best adapt to any climate.

Both give high quality humus, but L. Rubellus creates odorless humus, unlike Eisenia Fétida which gives strong smelling humus.

Foreign earthworm species also serve us although their reproduction may be slower, and their humus production lower.

How to grow earthworms for compost?
